On
Friday I went to visit Cor en Riet in Nesselande, a new neighborhood in Rotterdam. The
trip from Zoetermeer to Nesselande is proof dat public transportation is not always the
best way to go. According to the GPS the trip by car should take 24 minutes. But it is
kind of like Maine, "You can't get there from here . . ." I took the Randstad
Rail to Den Haag Centraal - The train from Den Haag Centraal to Schiedam Centraal.
Schiedam Centraal is both a train station and Rotterdam Metro Station. I was to take the
Metro from Schiedam all the way to Nesselande. The Metro only accepts the OV Passes. I had
researched it on the internet. I should be able to buy one way OV pass . . . Problem: the
one machine that sells the passes is out of passes. it works fine for adding money to your
account, but no passes. Luckily I did find a Metro Employee, who helped me. I was to go on
the train to the next stop and buy the pass there. She used her pass to get me on the
platform. At the next stop I need a pass to get of the platform, because the vending
machines are outside. All I had to do was find a Metro Employee. I should have used the
emergency phone, but I did not see it as an emergency. How hard should it be to find an
employee? All and all it took a little less than 3 hours to do the trip, Cor and Riet have
a beautiful senior citizen apartment, in a building called "de Kristal", less
than 5 minute walk from the Metro. Lucky for me my cousin John and his wife Anita drove me
back to Zoetermeer at night after we visited their daughter Tessa in Schiedam for her
birthday. No pictures of this day because I left the camera in Zoetermeer. |
